Let’s continue our little review of Athens sights. After the inevitable Acropolis, I take you with me today visit the Agora. Above all, some practical information: – The site is located at the foot of the Acropolis. You can access along a small track located to the left of the entrance. – The Agora is one of the 6 sights that you can visit with the combined ticket which costs 12€ and allows you to visit the Acropolis, the Theatre of Dionysus, the Roman Agora, the Keramicos cemetery, the Olympiéion and thus the Agora. Otherwise, the entry costs 4 €.
The site has many vestiges of what the Agora was: the living areas, commerce and trade.
To the right of the entrance, you can climb on few steps and get the temple of Hephaistos which is also one of the few buildings still standing.
From the top of this small hill, one can have a panoramic view of the Agora, with at the left the portico of Attalus and at the right the Acropolis.
To the left of the entrance, there is a large building that looks new and actually it’s the reconstruction of the portico of Attalus, which now houses a museum with sculptures and coins on 2 floors. You can access to the 2nd floor one of the two staircases at each end of the building. And from the 2nd floor, you can admire the beautiful view of the Acropolis and the temple of Hephaistos.
